In Black and white

Sometimes it is nice to just pick up a pen and attack the paper in a different way.  No water, no assembling pencils, squeezing out paint; just pick up a pen and start sketching from a reference photo by  Pat Issacs of Wet Canvas.

I found a good cow photo on the wet canvas photo library posted in the pen and ink challenge that appealed to me for a quick freehand sketch.  It is a relaxing past time.  I had forgotten how much I enjoyed this art form.

In an earlier life, before I found an art shop in Kampala where I was living, I started doing lots of pen and ink work.  There was plenty to inspire me there. The following are works I completed in my travels.
This is a Karamojan from Uganda.
A  quick sketch of a "Fish Mammy" in Nigeria
Another quick sketch of a construction worker in Tanzania.
I have even used a biro ball point in some work.  That artwork lasted 30 years so although the paper has discoloured and the black ink has faded to a sepia colour, I still have my chimps on the wall.  The paper I acquired at the time was not archival, but in Africa you may not always find a good supplier.

Thanks for your comments on my blog. I'm glad you like my current work. As for your recent ink drawings... I LOVE THEM!

It is good of you to post a larger version of the chimp that you had shared earlier. I like that one a lot, and from the others I like your sketch of the cow the best.
