Monkeying Around

Apes are great subjects.  They have so much character and are beloved by most people.  Of all the apes, my favourite is the gentle gorilla, portrayed by Hollywood as some sort of monster.  Man's perception of apes have changed over the years due to the efforts of people like Richard Attenborough, Jane Goodall, Allison and Jim Cronin  and many others who have worked so hard for their welfare.  I like the challenge of trying to capture their character and attitude.

A baby long tailed macaque monkey done with coloured pencil in the ATC 2.5 x 3.5 inches
I used coloured pencil to illustrate the wrinkly new face of the baby.  It has a lot of filling out to do.
The reference photo came from on-line stock photos.
From a photo I took of a thoughtful macaque monkey sitting on a wall near a temple in India.

The two biro pen chimps I did a long time ago and have lasted well for over 20 years.
Well done the Bic biro.
Over the years the black ink has gone sepia in colour.
The first one I removed the colour in photoshop.
The references came from photos  in Jane Goodall's books,
My gorilla 8 x 10 inches in coloured pencil has been in this blog before.

The thoughtful macaque is so lovely. In each you captured the character so beautifully. Stunning work.
